  • B1/B2 Visa - Good questions.

    Hi Friends,

am holder of valid B1/B2 visa that was granted in 2010 multiple entry for 10 years. Main reason for travel was : Tourism

1- Can I travel next year on same visa for different reason ? Let's say sit for CPA exam ?

2- Can I apply for the DV visa program ( diversity) online ? or this will surely affect my future B1/B2 visa application ? or even current visa in hand?

3- Is touring the US every year will help in getting the future visitor visa B2?

4- In case of having a local bank account in USA on B2 visa , anything wrong with that ? is it affecting the B2 future applications?

    thx

    1. Yes.

    2A. Yes.
    2B. No.

    3. Not necessarily.

    4. You can't open a US bank account while on B2 visa. You will need the tax ID which you can't get on B2 visa.

B1/B2 applied for by company, not working for that company anymore.

      Hello,
I was issued a B1/B2 visa, in 2004. The application was filed by the
company I was working for, back in 2004.
The visa was issued for a 10-year period, and is valid through 2014.

I no longer work for the company that applied for my visa.

I'm writing to ask, if I no longer work for the company that applied
for my visa anymore, can I use this visa to travel to the US as a
      tourist, until 2014?
Would there be any questions regarding the same, at port of entry?
Please note that the visa I have is a B1/B2(a combined business+tourist visa).

Also, please note that I am currently unemployed.

      Thanks so much in advance,
      Krishna

        No problems.
The very purpose of issuing a 10 yr multiple and (B1 + B2) combined visa is its flexibility
of use over 10 yrs for varying tourist and business reasons.

At the port of entry their only concern is that your purpose is
not beyond the scope of the visa (permanent stay, work or study). Answer your purpose of visit( tourist) and duration of stay in clear terms. You should also carry a return ticket, and be able to show an address where you will stay.

        You will also find your question answered at FAQs on the US embassy New Delhi website;

          Thanks so much for replying.

Thank you so much for replying, peace999, I sincerely, deeply appreciate your taking the time to do so. This is a huge relief, now I can make my plans with clarity. And yes, I will be carrying a friend's address to live at, and will clearly have a return ticket stating the return date.

          Thanks very much again,
          Krishna
