Interview - Language change is possible?

Hi,

My parents atlast got an appointment for May end at Chennai consulate for Visiting Visa interview. We went through an agent (who booked the appointment in Feb itself ). We got the appointment receipt/letter only last week. The agent made a mistake, they chose the 'Language' for interview as English, while my parents cant fluently talk English. They can talk Malayalam or Tamil and they are very much worried about this. Now we are tensed that will our application get rejected just bcoz we chose English and we cant attend the interview in English.

Is there anyway we can change the 'Chosen Language' to Tamil or Malayalam?
Or is it like on the day of the interview will they generally ask them for a Translator? Or they will deny an interpretor just bcoz we had chosen English?

Please help us ! Any experience on this particular regard will help us a lot... We are going from south Kerala to Madras and it will be very hard on us, incase it gets rejected for this silly reason.

it is always better to choose the language you are comfortable in.
the reason you have to do so is so that incase u need a translator , the consulate should be prepared to have one on that day and time.
you cannot be sure that you will get a translator the day and time your parents go as they have chosen english.

Interview language problem

Do not worry so much about this issue. I believe my mom had the same problem. Agent incorrectly chose English as her language of choice, but she wanted a Gujarati translator. When her name was called and she did not respond quite well in english, the interviewer was nice to her, gave her another number and asked her to wait for it to be called at another window with Gujarati translator.

However, I recommend that if your parents can speak little english and if their first impression of the visa officer at the window is nice, let them take the interview in english. If the officer smiles and appears courteous, chances are (s)he may not ask your parents too many questions in English and approve their visa application. On the other hand, choosing a different line with translator sometimes stereotypes the applicants in the eyes of the visa officer. Also, keep in mind that the lines are much longer for the translator window and so the officer is tired and more inclined to reject the visa. The officer giving interviews in English has less people to attend to and so he may be in a better mood to give the visa. Anyways, it is all a speculation at the end of the day. No one knows what is the right approach.

and by the way, my mom did not get the visa. That was her second rejection.
