  • Visitor visa for my mother who is a widow

My mom is a widow and my father passed away recently. She is going to get my father's pension and the house is on my father's name and my name where she is living right now. I have 2 sisters and both of them are in India.
I am the only son. What is the possiblity of my mom getting a tourist visa.
Based on the situation how to show my mom has strong ties to India. What is the possiblity of my mom getting the tourist visa. Is it difficult to get tourist visa for a widow mother? I have gone through the experiences and most of the widow mothers visas got rejected. Please advise on how to show strong ties and get my widow mom to get the tourist visa. Your reply will be appreciated

    rkmani,

I am not sure about others but my mom (widow) could easily get the visitor's visa at chennai consulate. My mom works for a PSU, owns a house and has her son staying with her. I have posted my mother's experience in this forum, chk it out and let me know if you want any further information.

My mom has gone for the VISA twice. She is 48 yrs old and is a widow. Iam a masters student graduating in April. I will be starting work in June. I have a brother who is studying in India (lives in Chennai). Iam told that both her age and widow status is working against her. I plan on applying again in August. My mom is really dejected after the second interview. We had provided all the paperwork and a letter of invitation from my universtiy to attend the convocation. The Counselor reviewed everything and said that they cannot issue the VISA. Can you please guide me as to what type of preparation i must do for the next interview. I will greatly appreciate this.

      Thanks

        Karur,

I do not think that your mother's age and her widow status is the sole reason for rejections. My mom is 52 yrs but she got her visa without any issues.

I have generally noticed that it is difficult for parents to get visitor's visa when their children are on F1 (just my understanding!). The consulate might think that it would be difficult for parents earning Indian Rs to sponsor themselves and also the education of their children.

If you are not in a hurry then you can wait till you get your H1 visa stamped and then sponsor your mother.

I have followed the list given on this website but the consulate did not chk even a single document.

My mom was very confident and I think that really helped.

Make sure your mom is confident and aggressive. She can voluntarily show any documents or give important information to the consulate officer.

Chk our my experience in the experiences list.

          Rkmani,
my mother, who is a widow, recently went for vistor visa in delhi consulate. she was refused visa. her age is 49. she was asked only 2 questions:
1-why do u want to go to US?
2-what is u'r source of income?

          Her answers were:
My daughter has been married almost 3 yrs, i want to go visit her.
As for source of income, she said she has a few investments, and her-in laws (my grandpants are there to support her). as for expenses in US, my daughter & son-in-law are sponsoring me.

The officer did not ask any other question, did not even look at the papers my husband sent and gave her the letter 221g.

My advise to you is that first of all showing strong ties in india (family, property etc) is very imp. the other key is not only just being confident but also sounding very confident.

I have taken another appointment for her and will try to show better ties this time.

          hope this info helps.

            Documents for Widowed mother

            I have couple of questions,

What are the documents that will let the Consulate officer know that the parent is a widower?
If we do not declare, will the officer know by any means that the parent is a widower?

            Your response is greatly appreciated.
