Original Documents- Will it be returned?

I am sponsoring my mother to visit me. She has an appointment on May 3rd at Mumbai. She has been here once and returned withing 6 months(no extension).
Based on immihelp's website one of the docs required are birth certificate of the sponsor in ORIGINAL. Since I do not have a birth certificate, I plan to send a set of secondary eveidence of birth(Non-avail cert, two affidavits etc, which got me my green card in the first place).
If I send these in original, will they be returned to my mother after the consulate officer peruses it, if he/she does?
I hope you can understand my finickyness, because if these docs get "lost", it will be hell to replace them.
Any one with experience, could you advise?

I can understand with regard to the original birth certificate but would about all the other documents viz. employment letter,bank statements,copies of pay stub would they be returned ?
The reason I am so curious as I my mother-in law has an interview date followed by 15 days my sister has an appointment so just wants to make sure whether the same set of documents can be used.

A quick response is greatly appreciated.

yes, all of those documents will be returned as well. They keep only DS-156 (and DS-157, DS-158 as applicable), photo and fee.
