  • To change B1-B2 visa to F1 visa while in USA

    Hi,

At present I am in USA on b1 b2 visa and would like to complete my masters in US and for that i have to change my status from b1 b2 to F1. What are the chances to get it approved by the USCIS? I am under the process to get Form I20 from the SEVIS approved university. My form I94 shows expiration date of stay is 02 Nov 2011. Do I have much time to apply for COS?

You can do so, it worked for me!

It looks like Mr. Administrator with his short answer tired of this forum and helping in immigration issues. Regarding your issue you can change your status easily BUT there is a small chance of rejecting your application, all you have to do is the following steps:

1- Find a SEVIS approved school and get enrollment information for international students.
2- Find someone willing to sponsor you for the school and to fill out Form I-130.
3- Register at the chosen school and get I-20 from that shool.
4- Register and pay SEVIS fees.
5- Send your application for adjustment of status I-539+fees, sponsor's form I-130, letter "a good explanation why you changed your mind and want to get F1 status and would like to study in the US" and SEVIS Receipt.
6- Wait for about 3 weeks to 2 moths for a response "usually approval notice".
7- NEVER EVER APPLY FOR ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS TO F1 WITHIN THE FIRST 60 DAYS FROM ENTERING THE USA, THEY WILL CONSIDER THAT "PRECONCEIVED INTENT".
        Good luck.
