Visitors visa - different air line tickets to come and return

Hi - Do you think the air lines people will object if we have a different air lines ticket to return? I am under the impression that the air lines need a return ticket just in case the vistor is not allowed to enter the country for some reason. Please pass on any ideas/thoghts.

Before boarding the passenger, it is the airline's responsibility to check that the person is eligible to travel to the U.S. However, if the person is not admitted to the U.S. for reasons beyond what airlines can check, it is still the airline's responsibility to carry that person back at their expense and not using the return ticket.
