Urgent question about extension of B2 visa

Could someone please tell me who should write the cover letter for extension filing process. Should it be the applicant or can we write on behalf of the applicant. As in the applicant is going to be my mother and the form I 539 is written by her solely , so should the cover letter be written as though she is asking for extension or we appealing for her extension request.
Please do let me know asap as we have just completed all paper work and are about to despatch when we came across this doubt. There is no site which gives any help on this.

Your mother should sign the letter addressed to USCIS and she should also sign the form I-539. It is her application. All you are doing is providing funds for her stay. You can write a letter stating that you will take care of all expenses.

Thank you very much for such a prompt reply. And for your clarification.
I have asked for extension for 3 months with reasons stating spending time with family for christmas vacation. We have also provided a supporting ticket of going to Hawaii in Dec in case extension is provided. Do you think this will be sufficient proof for enabling us to get her visa extended.??
