Visa - Time taken

My parents have an appointment on August 4th in CHENNAI Consulate. I need to reserve air tickets for them in the event of they getting VISA.

How many days does it normally take for the US Consulate/TTS Visa service to courier the documents to the passport holders assuming there are no issues for the Visa Officer to provide the VISA? Or What is the elapsed time from the time one attends the interview and receives the stamped passport?

Generally the consulate says 1 week. But depending on your place of residence, it could very well be received earlier than this. In my case from Tue's interview, passports were received on Sat.
