  • Documents required for B2 Visa

    Hi,

I am planning to travel to US in the month of June and July 2012 . I work for a reputed IT firm in India and the company has approved my leave. I will be visiting my sister and also a few places in and around my sister's place. I am applying for a self sponsored Visa and hence

    1. Wanted to know what all documents I need to submit to the embassy such that my Visa is granted.
    2. What is the average amount that I need to show as my bank balance? I am travelling for only a month and assume I wouldn't be spending much.
    3. I have certain FD's coming up to 2.5 lakhs. Can that be shown as proof of funds also?
    4. I also have an RD acct for about 1.25 lakhs. Can that be shown as proof of funds also?

Would be of great help if you could answer the above questions.

Don't worry about any FDs/RDs. No one will look at them. they will just ask you your income.Just take your salary slip or IT return.

More important are your family ties to India. Are you single? If yes, you may have difficulty
getting a visa since your purpose is very casual.

Thanks for the reply!! Actually the reason for visit is that my elder sister who resides in the US is delivering a baby in the month of June. I am going to US to visit her and the new born baby. I am not single and my boyfriend works in India and I intend to get married this year. Should I show any proof for the same? Hence, before getting married I would like to visit my sister and also a few places. My parents are also very old and hence I do not have any intentions of holidaying in US for long. Would this cause a problem in granting Visa?

Regarding the salary slips and IT returns - I was working in Singapore on Work permit for almost 2 years i.e. from 2010 to 2011 and hence I haven't paid any taxes in India during that period. My expenses for the US trip are the savings that I have made during my Singapore trip. I only have the Form 16 for the last 3 years. Would this be sufficient or will have a problem?

Please provide answers to the above queries.

First of all , do not mention the baby unless asked. They will think you are going as a baby sitter.
Just say you wish to visit your sister for xxx weeks.

They will ask you about your current job and your income . That is a deciding question, more important than proof of past savings. Carry an employment cum leave letter from your company with a mention of the salary.

Even if you are self- financing, do not forget to get a formal invitation from your sister
with a copy of her passport and US visa( if any).

About your marital status , you are actually single . Boyfriend does not mean you are married.
If you are engaged , that will be in your favour as the officer will think you are likely to return to your fiance'.
Mostly they take your answers on their face value and they do not ask for proof .
