  • Tourist visa denied, can parents now re-apply separately

    Hi,
My parents were denied US tourist visa for no apparant reason at Mumbai consulate. They went for the interview together.
My dad is retired and that could be a reason that it got rejected for both. Will there be any issue if they go for the interview separately on different days so that my mom has a better chance of positive response at least? She is a home maker. Please advise.

    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    PBankar.

If he has no other children in India and he is retired, that is the reason for denial.

Members of a family should apply together even if traveling separately
Says a clear note on US embassy New Delhi webpage for non-immigrant visas.

Your mother applying first will definitely be asked about your dad at the interview. If she says he won't be traveling and then he applies a few days later, it will be tricking the embassy and will create big problems.
If she says he will be applying separately, they won't allow that, and will deny on that basis.

You can try with your mother actually applying and traveling alone. It will increase her chances but still no guarantees.

      sharing my experience

      Hi,
I have an exactly similar situation with my parents. My dad is retired too and my mom is a homemaker. They had an interview in Jan 2012,went together and visa was denied. They were not asked many questions. They replied that they are going for 3 months and we did not mention any property in the DS-160.I feel that might have been the reason for denial. The Visa agent had assured us that my parents visa will not be a problem as they are retired. But we were disappointed on denial. My friends suggested to re apply in 6 months and mention strongly about property, farming or that they take tuition classes something like that to show that they will come back to India.I am going to give a second try in June-July.
I was just sharing my experience as we had a similar situation .I know how bad it feels when this happens.
Good luck with ur parents visa
