I have been a student in the U.S. for the past 8 years, the first 7 years in F-1 status and the last year in M-1 status. My M-1 visa expires in July. I would like to travel a bit after my visa expires so I was wondering how easy it will be for me to change my status to B-2. In the 8 years I have been living/working here I have not left the country even once. Is this a fact that will make it more difficult to prove home country ties? I have enough in savings to support myself here during my vacation. Also, I have a brother in Europe who is offering me a job at the company where he works (he is preparing me a letter). In addition to this proof, what else may I need to show? I'm concerned about buying a plane ticket. How would I know which date to choose for the flight if I don't know if this change of status is approved?
