  • Refused visa to parents at Chennai

I sent all the required documents. I renewed my passport so did not send a copy of old passport. Other than that sent all the documents. I included my green card copy also.

Visa officer refused by parents visa 214b. Did not even look at all the documents including the ties to india.

Asked my father on what status I entered US. He said he did not know. Obviously he would not know/remember those details. I entered legally and also provided all the documents from my company. If they were need more doumentation on that, all they had to do is request rather than give 214b as refusal.

Is this common to reject their application and refusal reason as 214b without even looking at my parents documents and ties to India.

I am very disappointed with the system since my parents had no intention other than visit me. [I know most would say welcome to the club.] If visa processing is random and luck based is it worth to retry another time. I do not understand how can a process be this random. I think people would have better luck with lottery than visa system.

Please let me know if someone else had similar experiences.
    Thanks.

    Dont lose hope

    Vij,

Sorry to hear about your parents visa.. I can understand your pain and frustration cos my parents visa was also rejected twice at Mumbai under 214(b). On the first occasion, they looked at some documents. Then they asked if we owned a car.. Dad siad No and they rejected us probably from a financial perspective.. We had other documents to prove sound finances but they didnt give us a chance to show them..

Second time around they refused to look at any documents and didnt ask any questions.. It was almost like they were giving out mass rejections..

We waited 2 years before applying again.. But this time I coached my parents with all relevant information - my GC details (I-485 etc), when I came to the US, why they are applying, why only for a short period, how to prove ties to India etc (questions I found and compiled from this forum) .. At the interview, they were asked quite a few questions but mainly stuff that we had rehearsed.. and they got the visa.

I just want to tell you.. Dont lose hope.. Wait for a little while (if you can) before applying again.. Along with documents, concentrate on presentation and mock interviews.. And God willing, they'll get thru

    Good luck.

Thanks for your encouraging words mumbaivisa

Does anyone have a good idea how long it is better to wait before re-applying?

I did not coach my parents thinking telling the truth and being honest will work the best. Also I did not practice with them a mock interview. Everyone mentioned in this forum that it is better to be prepared. But how will you prove you have ties to India if they never get to those questions.

Both my parents had their mothers who are partially dependent on them. Parents are financially sound. Dad retired more than a year ago. They never got a chance to mention all this.

Any suggestions appreciated what additional documents I can submit next time.

Certainly, we all need God's grace.
      Thanks.

        Hi Vij

The strong reason may be not sending your old passport.I have sent total pages copies of new and old passport cause they see all the leagl status for total presense in the United states.I understand these is not fair to parents.Try for anther appointment which is currently avialable in September mean while prepare them slowly for interview and take two three mock interviews before they leave for embassy.I think next time they will surely get.As only they need latest payslips and letter from bank and employer when they go next time other wise I think they can carry the same set documents

        Regards
        Sri

I think your Dad saying that he did not know the status in which you entered US could be the drawback too. Try again and prepare them well and your parents should definately get the visa. Good luck!! We all need it.

Reapplying : Any suggestions or thoughts

            Hi All,
I am reaqpllying for my parents visitor visa imediately after the rejection under 214(b) at mumbai consulate. Last time they were rejected saying my retired parents' income is very less as compared to US standards. Also they mentioned they want to stay in US for 6 months.

I am reapplying this time and Just sending all same docuements as i don't know how can we project more balance or income in 2 months.

Only difference is that this time we are mentioning 3 month's stay and that we will not take the transalator and dad will make an attemopt to appear for an interview in English.

ANy idea or thoughts whether this will work out?

            Thanks

You could get some mock questions in "Read Experiences"...... it really helps to send your parents a copy of these questions and then conduct mock interviews.
