  • Rejection for B1/B2 visa

I appeared at the US consulate,Mumbai on 1st June. The interview was in English.
The questions asked to me were
    1. what is your purpose of travel to the US?
Answer- I'm going to attend my cousin's wedding in Minnesota

    2. What do you do?
A- I'm doing my Bachelor of Physiotherapy course from XYZ college

    3. What does your father do?
    Answer- He passed away
    (VO's reply... i'm very sorry)

    4.What does your mother do?
Answer- She's in accounts.... xyz company

    5. How many days will you be staying there?
    Answer- 30days

    6. Who all will be going with you?
Answer- My mother and my grandparents

After this VO said I'm sorry cannot issue you the visa and I was handed out a 214b white form.
    He did not ask to see a single document although I was carrying;
    1. A bonafide from college stating that I have to return in September for my internship
    2. Invitation letter from my Cousin, her wedding card, copy of the wedding catering contract.
3.As my mother's brother will be paying for the tickets.... I was carrying all sponsor documents
like his Green card photocopy, bank statements if 6months and an !-134 Affidavit of support

My reasons for wanting to travel to the US are honest and I'm thinking of re-appling soon.
My mother and grandparents have a 10 year B1/B2 y visa

Could You please help me out as to what went wrong in the interview or any question that I could have answered differently.
I Had given really short to the point answers.... should I not do that the next time?
Also what if they don't offer to see my documents again?
Can i choose a tourism category visa ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Visitor visa Decision is made based on your life situation and not documents.

    1.Young ,
    2.single
3 going for a casual visit
    4. not firmly settled at home in a financially sound job / vocation.

The above 4 reasons make you highly suspect as potential immgrant and hence the
denial.(Even if you do not wish to immigrate, that is how they judge).

At this point, you cannot change the above 4 reasons for denial , so there is no point
reapplying, I am sorry to say.

If all these points are hurdles for a person, who is Single and studying, This is fine, But I wonder why these Rules can not be defined officially by Embassy, about NOT to give visas to all such ppl who are single and studying and going for a casual visit, instead of such rejections all the time.
Similar case was with my Sister also..
Good Luck to you for your next Visa appointment, If you plan to apply again.

They cannot generalize it as it is not in total black and white.
Some such people may qualify with some variation.
        For example;
        *a young , single person
        *studying in a college
*going to visit his cousins in US during vacation time
*shows his father ,who is a very wealthy businessman is funding the trip.

The last point here makes the officer think he is likely to come back because of the financial ties.
Hence he may get the visa.

Strong income and affluence( financial ties) does play a big role in visitor visa decisions.
