  • I-134 Affidavit of Support for US Visitor visa

    Hi,

I am in the process of sending the documents to my mom for the visitors visa application. One of the requirements is the notarized copy of the I-134. This form basicall is to state that I would be supporting my mom for all the expenses during her stay with me in the US. I need a clarification regarding two sections in the I-134 form.

Point No. 5 in the form states the following:

That I am willing and able to receive, maintain and support the person(s) named in item 3. (Item 3 states the name of the person whom you are inviting).

But point No. 11 sates the following:

That I intend / do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3. (If you check "intend," indicate the exact nature and duration of the contributions. For example, if you intend to furnish room and board, state for how long and, if money, state the amount in United States dollars and state whether it is to be given in a lump sum, weekly or monthly, or for how long.)

Can I select "do not intend" in point No. 11, beacuse as per point 5, I am stating that I am taking complete responsibility for the support of my mother. Also, I feel, one should select 'I intend" only if the person is going to support only part of the expenses of the visiting pseron and hence s/he will in that case need to specify exactly what are the expenses s/he is going to bear. Will it be ok if I leave that point No. 11 blank when I send the papers to my mom.

I would appreciate it if anyone who has filled this form send me their comments.

    Regards,
    Jyoti

I have the same question, since I am filling out the I-134 for my parents. I plan to check the "do not intend" to make any specific contributions. Since the I-134 is in itself binding that the sponsor is fully responsible.
