Hi,
I have my mother-in-law visiting us. Her I-94 is stamped for 6 months until Jan 3rd 2013 and her visa is valid till 2017. We are planning to request an extension for 3 months beyond the 6 months currently granted. Her passport is expiring in June 2013. Would it still be possible to request for an extension until April 2013? Does anyone know how long the US consulate need the passport to be valid to grant an extension?
I did try to look up this info and could not find it anywhere. I also cannot possibly renew her passport since she is here in a visitor visa and Indian consulate will not consider B1/B2 visas for passport extension.
Any thoughts on what can be done to extend her stay beyond 6 months will be much appreciated.
Regards,
