  • I-156 corrections

Is it possible to correct changes on I-156 form once submitted? My mother submitted it at the Mumbai consulate. Can she tell different purpose to visit to U.S than written in I-156 form?

Please reply if anyone has any experience with the above.

    Thanks,

    Ds-156

The purpose written in the DS-156 is visiting for pregnacy help and I found out that they reject visa if the reason given is pregnancy so the letters I sent says tourism but the 156 form is already submitted. Is there a way to make correction to 156 form? Please reply...

    Thanks, I appreaciate...

      Thanks,
What do you mean by submitted? Did your mother already attend the interview? If she still has time, I would recommend you to fill out the DS-156 again (discard the old one) and send it to her (perhaps via a courier service). Make sure that your documentation reason(s) match up with each other - i.e. you should not have tourism, and pregnancy in the other.

Helping for pregnancy as a reason may trigger a visa denial. Good luck!

        finess99,

Do they allow you to make changes to DS-156 form? I mean can they submitted corrected 156 form? My mother's appt is on Aug 25th and I really need her ASAP after that. Please suggest...

        Thanks,

          Thanks,
It appears that different agencies catering to different consulates have different regulations. Who did you submit the DS-156 form to?

              Thanks,
Looking at the US cosulate web site in Mumbai, it appears that they collect the documentation before hand (which is different from the Chennai consulate). From what you have stated, it looks like your mom has already received an appointment letter. Once your paperwork is entered into the consulate system, I think it is too late to change the purpose.

You can try a couple of things:

              - Call up the application center for the Mumbai consulate, and see if they are willing to accept an updated/corrected application
              - If not, your Mom just has to go to the interview and see what happens

Personally, I think it would be difficult to convince that she is not visiting to take care of you during pregnancy since it is already keyed in on the DS-156 (unless the application center lets you update the form). Who knows the officer may be in a good mood and everyone gets what they want...

              Good luck
