  • Is US Open Final a good reason for visiting USA?

My parents have been preparing the documents to visit me in USA for sometime. They will self sponsor - my dad works as a technical supervisor in a private hospital, after he retired for govt job (62 years old now). my mother is a housewife. I have a younger unmarried sister in India.this thought just came to my mind yesterday - since my father is a great sport enthusiast, I am planning to book a ticket for him for see the sept 9th final of US open in NY, and give this as one of the reason, along with visiting me. what do you think guys?

Two negatives I see: My uncle (fathers younger brother) is a US citizen.

I can schedule an interview only by august 24th for them - will it be too close for the sept 9th final - I mean does the reason look believable?

    Please advise folks!

Does the reason look believable? Of course! It's true, isn't it?

People travel to watch sport matches all the time. It is a good reason to travel. I'm not sure if a copy of the match tickets will be asked for.

Whats your current status? Though the reason looks ok, the VO would certainly be interested in knowing how many Finals of other Grand Slam tournament has your father attended previously. Its better that they self sponsor, family ties look fine too with your Sister staying back. This is my opinion not legal advice.

thanks guys, they are self sponsoring themselves. My father has never seen a grandslam final before, it happens only in 4 countries in the world - france, UK, Australia, and USA. Since I stay in US, I thought it will be logical to make his dream come true. I am in H1 B visa, working as a permanent employee of a utility (fortune 200) company.

my only concern is if I am hurrying things up by setting the interview just 2 weeks before the final, I mean if the VO thinks it as a negative of some sort. I thought it will be a nice secondary valid reason to come to US, but if it is not a very strong/unique one, I would rather drop this plan.

        what is your opinion?
