  • Visa Rejected

    Hi,

My inlaws visa was rejected saying that they have social ties at the Mumbai consulate today. The consul asked 3 questions and my father in law answered them right. They were asked What does your daughter do,how much she makes and what do you do.
Then the consul said I cannot grant you visa. My father in law had all the paper work but the consul didnt even give him a chance to show anything.

I wanted to find out if there is anyway I can send in a letter to the consulate and explain them that they are just coming to visit USA for a month and have no intentions of staying back.
Has anyone tried this before? Will they pay attention?
Also since the wait time for a interview is more then 2 months the summer will be over here by that time.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks,
    Manish

Your letter will not work. They do not work that way.And It may create a bias against future applications by your in-laws.

Regrettably, they will not be able to visit this summer by any chance but they
can re-apply say 6 months later and work hard to overcome the reason for
refusal. ( what do you mean by social ties?)

Thats what the consul said "social ties" , it is the section 214(b).

I heard that you dont have to pay the application fee again if you apply within the year. Is this true?

      Thanks for the response.

        Cannot interpret "Social ties" .

Since the refusal in your case was under 214(b), you must pay
        another fee for a reapp.
Refusals under 221(g) (eg. more documents required) do not require a reapp fee for another year.

2 years ago my parents visa was rejected. So we gave similar letter with them for 2nd interview. Letter was addressed to consulate officer.
He read the letter and still rejected the visa. (They had all papers, answered questions correctly.)

Reason given : I am not sure you will come back.

And yes we had to pay fees. FOr 2nd try within 3 months of 1st try. How will they make money otherwise? But again it was 2 years ago. Rules might have changed since then.

Now after waiting for 2 years we are thinking of going for Visa again.
But not sure this time too.

So it is all matter of LUCK.

          Good luck!!

Visitor visa application rejected under 214(b)

My in-laws had their interview on July 22nd and their application was rejected under 214(b). They didn't even check any documents. All they asked was about me and my job and my father-in-law answered all the questions correctly.

I still do not understand how they can reject without even taking a look at the documents. This makes it clear that they are doing this randomly to make money. Now my in-laws have to get another appointment date and go back hoping they get the visa.

I feel sorry that there is little anyone can do about the way the U.S. Consulate works in India.

Hope this comes to a stop and they treat the applicants with little more dignity and respect and learn to do their job the right way.

All the best to all who are in a similar situation.

Sorry to hear that. One thing I would recommend is to make sure that the application form and the answers to any questions asked, and documentation are in sync. Unfortunately, most consul officers may not reveal the exact reason for the rejection. Good luck, and I hope everything works out going forward.

                Hi,

Even my parents visa their got rejected in chennai consulate last week under 214b. This means ,my parents are considered not to return back from US, hence rejected. That is why the consulate people check for more social ties in India , so that u will return back India for sure.

We are trying for another appointement just for my mother, so that she can say her life partner is here , hence she might get visa approved.

We need to convince that we have strong family/social ties back in India , that never will stay IN US forever.

                Hope this helps you.
