I got my B1 visa yesterday and my wife has an interview appointment on July26th in Delhi. Please advise me if she should apply as accompanying me on my business visa or should she apply totally as a seperate visa going on her own? Do I need to go with her for interview is she tells the visa officer that she is accompanying me on my business trip. I was also thinking of taking my 2 kids (6 yrs and 3 yrs) with me on this trip but I didn't include their names in the appointment. Do I need to take seperate appointment for them or can they just go with my wife when she goes for her visa interview? Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think anyone other than the applicant is allowed inside the embassy
for the interview. You or your kids will not be able to accompany your wife
unless all of you are applicants too.
If the whole family planned to go together you should have applied together. The consular may think that you are trying to trick the consulate by applying separately during a short period of time and deny them visas. It may even affect your B1.
Now that your wife is going for the interview anyway, let her have a
separate purpose and date of visit from yours and it better be a good one to
justify separate applications.
If she gets the visa, do not fly together as it may get you in problems at the port of entry.Last edited by skk538; 07-11-2005, 10:44 PM.

Business visa for females
Hi again
Thanks a lot for your advise. Just need to get some more info. My wife would be applying for B1 visa - she would be telling them that she is putting a stall in a consumer fair (indian mela) here for her own family business in India. I have the proof of money I paid for the stall and some other export documents of previous transactions. Also she will have hotel booking in her name. Please let me know are these good enough supporting documents to convince the visa officer? Would you give any other tips for a woman applying for business visa? Alco please let me know if she can carry kids (6yrs and 3 yrs) with her on a business trip?
Thanks

In addition to what you mentioned, she should show all details about her business here in India. Go to us embassy website where all requirements
are mentioned.
She should only state a short duration of stay ( for as long as the mela;
2-3 weeks).
It is strongly advised NOT to apply for children's visas. If she tells the consular she wants to take her children with her, she will more likely be refused because the consular might think in terms of all of you not coming back.
Leaving children behind will be a positive factor for her app as it
will assure her return.
It would be easier to get children's visas for your next trip after both of you
have returned from your visits.
Also, she will more likely be asked why she applied on a different
date than you. What was so compelling that one of you could not
stay back with your children? She can say that since she was going to a different place on a different date for a different purpose, she thought she could apply on a different date.Last edited by skk538; 07-14-2005, 06:24 AM.
