Hello,
My wife is from Nigeria and has lived with me in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for many years. Two weeks ago she was sworn in as a U. S. citizen. At her naturalization ceremony she also received a name change to my last name. She also has already received her U.S. passport with her new, married last name on it. She is planning on visiting her family in Nigeria soon and we have a couple of questions:
1) We were told by someone that she would be able to travel to Nigeria without a visa by using her Nigeria passport which is still current. Is this correct?
2) Her concern is that her new U.S. passport is in her married name which is different than her Nigeria passport which has her maiden name. Will this cause a problem or confusion with customs or the airlines.
3) We were told that she should make her plane ticket in the name on her Nigerian passport but bring along her U.S. passport also and her official government issued certificate showing her name change awarded to her at her naturalization ceremony. Is this correct?
We are looking for accurate answers to these questions so that she goes about this in the correct manner but it is very difficult to get through to the Nigerian embassies in the U.S. by phone or receive a reply to my emails. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
