  • Visitor Visa Extension - Questions

Hi: I have to apply for an extension of my MIL's visitors visa. My questions are:

    1. Can I do this by myself or do you suggest use of an attorney?

    2. How many days is advance can we apply? The application recommends 45 days. Can we apply earlier than that (not before 3 months of entry)?

    3. What are the chances of rejection?. We have a genuine reason since we had a baby and we need all the help.

    Thanks for the info

    Regards

    Maverick,

The reason of extension should be more tourism, I applied for my mother and got approval in 15 days... If you have the paperwork right I dont think there would be any rejections. I was also scared about getting rejection but after hearing success stories from my friends I decided to go for it....

    To answer your questions:
    1. You can do it yourself, taking an attorney will not increase chances,
    2. You can apply anytime but I would suggest stay cloe to 45 days as it would show genuinity and not pre-planned extension.
    3. Chances are good as per my experience, again depends on case by case basis and LUCK, Do not use baby sitting as a reason at all... Visitor Visa is meant for tourism and state reason as need to visit more places and spend some more time with family...

    Good Luck!

palvisa, thanks for the response. And as far as Chennai guy/gal goes.. you need to calm down a little bit. No need for your harsh personal views about anybody else's situation. Please respond only if you have anything genuine to say or to help out other people.

No offence, Maverick1, but I respect Chennai_123's honesty. The fact is that we have to have a forum like this because of the difficulty genuine/bonafide visitors have in getting a visa. And part of the reason they have such difficulty is because of others making up **** excuses/false tales/lies for getting here and staying back here.

The fact is we live in this country and we need to show reasonable respect for the laws of this land, however unreasonable these laws may seem at times. And frankly, the habit of making up false excuses to get here/stay back worries many honest people who respect the laws of this land. It worries them because for every person who makes up **** reasons, a genuine visitor with bonafide reasons to visit/extend a visit will be rejected.

The fact is that Chennai123 has helped many people on this forum to get truthful information. We should not get so self-absorbed where we begin to look down on a person's honesty. Honesty and truth may not appear very palatable but you still need to learn to accept it.

Huh, are u saying you don't want to hear the truth? Your situation does not warrant an extension. Baby sitting is a JOB eventhough you don't pay your in-laws for it, you are essentially taking away a job of a U.S citizen, that's the way USCIS sees it. As long as you are in this country, you WILL HAVE TO PLAY BY THE RULES OF THE LAW IN THIS COUNTRY.

You want your in-laws to stay here bcos you and your wife want to go to work/school and you don't want to pay for a baby-sitter. Even if you apply for extension and give a reason say tourism, it is bound to get rejected, as NO VISITOR WILL NEED TO SPEND MORE TIME IN THE U.S. 6 months of stay is more than sufficient to visit all the 50 states in the U.S (if you want to do so).

Bottom line the MORE PEOPLE like you abuse the Visa privileges, the more difficult it gets for bonafide visitors to get visas and more difficult it gets for people to get 6 months of stay at the POE. The moment people get rejected they tend to blame the VOs. But unfortunately it is NOT the VOs fault, it is the fault of all the people who have abused the visa privileges.

The goal of this forum is to guide people to genuinely use and enjoy the visa privileges and PLAY BY THE RULES, it is NOT MEANT TO COOK UP FALSE STORIES AND ENCOURAGE VISA ABUSE, which is what you are asking for.

In the end it is YOUR CALL, you asked for opinions and you got it.
Chennai.. who are you to make a judgement about whether we need an extension or not?. What do you know about my situation. What makes you think that we are not paying by the laws. Are you the only ONE who is a law abiding citizen. Give me a break. Dont make any assumptions in your response. We are NOT looking for a baby sitter and my wife is a home maker.

Applying for an extension is NOT illegal. Good grief...
