stay validity - before receiving receipt of extension

Hi,
My visitor visa expires in May 3rd week. I'll be applying for extension in next week. How long does it take to get a receipt back? Is it valid to stay after may 3rd week, even if I don't get receipt back by then??

Receipt may take 3-4 weeks.

Yes, as long as you filed paperwork before expiration, you are OK.
