Can I apply for extension of visa(B2) after I-94 expiry date while CoS is in process?

I got an RFE requesting a new I-20 with latest program starting date because the date on my first I-20 was already overdue. I didnt apply for extension of visa as the COS was in process. Now the starting date on the I-20 is more than 30 days after the expiry date on my I94. Is it possible to apply for extension after the expiry date on I-94 now to bridge the gap between the expiry date on my I94 and the starting date of my program?

No. You cannot file for extension of a visa status, when the corresponding I94 is expired. This is the pitfall with B1/B2 to F1 COS.
