  • Visitor Visa for my mother

    Hi,

my mother is applying for visitor visa to attend my brother's graduation ceremony, and I am sponsoring the trip for my mother and I am in H1-B status. Its been a while that my father got passed away.

I have seen in the threads and in your post that getting visitor visa approvals for the Widowed mother is tough.

So I want some help from you to how to present the sponsor documents and other self documents when she goes for the interview. My brother is sending the invitation letter from his college.

My another brother (working/employed, Single) and my mother live in india.

Will there be a problem even though she wants to attend for her son's graduation ceremony.

    Please reply with your suggestions.

    Thanks
    Raghav

Yes, for widows it is difficult but not impossible. Many have succeeded if not in the first but later attempts.

Actually documents and sponsorship are not important.

Most important are her ties to India.
Is she working or does she have a source of income in India?
What is roughly the combined family income of herself and her son in India?
    <10L or > 10L per year
Do they have their own house or any other property in India?

You can't do much .because they will ask the questions and decide on the basis of answers your mother will give.
Maybe you can send a letter to your mother ( addressed to the officer) explaining why your mother is visiting and why she has to be back ( explain the ties ; house , single son). Your mother can present it at the opening. It has worked for some on later attempts but I am not sure
        it will work.
If they ask for the duration she can say 2 months, not longer.

          Thank you,

One more question, as my mother is coming to attend for a convocation, should I mention B2 visa or B1/B2 visa in the DS form. Can you also please let me know the difference and suggest which would be better even in future she wants to visit.
