Visitors Insurance for my Mom in US

Hi,

I am looking for insurance for my mom who is 64 years old right now but will be soon 65 years old in July of 2014. She is currently visiting me in US and her plan is to stay for 6 months till November of 2014. She landed here in US a week back only. It looks like because she is living with me in Maryland there are not many options available to us as some of the insurance companies are not offering their plans here due to some regulatory changes.

Can you please recommend on which plan to buy for her and which is the best one at an affordable rate. The one which is available in Maryland and I am planning to buy is from Liaison International Option 1 with a high deductible. Is their any other good plan in the same cost range? Initially I was thinking of buying the one from Patriot America because of its low cost but it looks that one is not available in Maryland.

Please suggest as I am looking to buy asap.

Insurance in Maryland

I have a similar question. I am looking for comprehensive coverage for 2 adults (age 60-64). They will be in Minnesota for part of their visit and in Maryland for the remaining. I visited the Liaison link you sent. It gives the quote with policy max, deductible, but it is not clear if the pre-existing conditions are covered and if yes, up to how much?

I just spoke with some Kristy as Insubuy and she says the the criteria 'not available to residents of Maryland' applies to residentx (green card holders, citizens) and not to visitors on tourist visa. So I guess more insurance options open up. The problem with Liaison is it covers only up to $10,000-15000 for pre-existing conditions. Whereas other insurances (eg. atlas america) offer a coverage of up to $100,000 for the pre-existing conditions for the same price.

I have another question. Say you buy the insurance for $100,000 policy maximum and after the effective day you would like to increase the maximum to $500,000 so can you do that by paying the difference in the premium?

No, as discussed over the phone, you can't do that. Otherwise, everyone will purchase the minimum insurance and as they see the need, they would want to increase the benefits which is a pure loss to the insurance company. Therefore, it is the best to purchase $500,000 to begin with.

Liaison International pays up to $15,000 in acute onset of pre-existing conditions for people below the age of 70 years. Here, we are specifically discussing about the non-US citizens visiting the US.
