Hi - My mother is 62 years old and has diabetes. Would the insurance cover the cost of blood work to monitor her diabetes? Also, can I go straight to the lab for the blood work or do I have to go to a doctor first?
Unfortunately, such routine maintenance related to pre-existing conditions will NOT be covered any visitors insurance plan. You will have to pay out of your pocket.
You will have to go to the doctor first. You can not directly go to the lab because Dr has to order the test first.
Previously there was not a plan a visitor could get that included pre-existing condition coverage with the exception of some plans providing an acute onset benefit. There is a plan now available that can provide some pre-existing condition coverage for unexpected issues as long as the proposed insured is fit to travel, is not coming to the U.S. for medical treatment, and purchases the plan before departing their home country. https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-protect-insurance/
