  • Travel Medical Insurance

My mother, 73 yrs, in generally good condition, is planning to visit the USA and UK from Feb 1 to Oct 10. What travel medical plan would you recommend? She is planning on getting Oriental's mediclaim--but I have read the various experiences regarding Coris USA on this web page and am concerned about the universal bad reviews that Coris has received . What is your view on this? I would appreciate some thoughts from you on this matter.

Thank you for your interest in purchasing health insurance for your mother.

It is certainly better to buy insurance from US based company as it has many advantages.

You have already read lots of experiences regarding Oriental/Coris etc. Therefore, you should buy insurance from US company. Look at https://www.insubuy.com/guide/ and at https://www.insubuy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25333

There are 2 types of plans:
Fixed: Limited, cheaper. Read about it at https://www.insubuy.com/guide/terms.jsp?section=fixed
Best one in this category is Visitors Care at https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-care-insurance/

Comprehensive: Better, more expensive. Read about it at https://www.insubuy.com/guide/terms.jsp?section=comprehensive
Best one in this category is Protection America at https://www.insubuy.com/patriot-america-insurance/

You should consider buy either Visitors Care or Protection America.

I hope that answers your questions.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Dear Mr. Khatri: Thanks for your prompt response and information. How would you rate Worldmed compared to the ones you have indicated below? The reason I ask is that this is underwritten by AIG and the emergency assistance center is in Houston where I live. I would appreciate your thoughts.

WorldMed is a good plan as well. However, its PPO network (Multiplan PPO) is not as big as Protection America's (First Health PPO).

AIG assistance center being in Huston is coincidence and makes no difference to you. You can't visit that place in person anyway. Everything is by phone and it does not make much difference whether the physical place is in Huston or Indianapolis.

You should buy WorldMed if you want $100,000 coverage. Otherwise, you should buy Protection America if you want $50,000 coverage.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for this valuable advice. I shall check out the PPO coverage for Worldmed and then decide, as you suggest. Can I sign up by calling you on the phone or should the enrollment be done online?
