Couple visiting US/Canada

I and my wife propose to visit USA & Canada to meet relatives & for tourism. On the way in/out I would be transiting through UK. My tentative stay is for 3 months commencing in April 2006, and I may extend it to 6 months. I would also like to cover my travel to/from India to USA/Canada via UK + travel within USA & Canada.
