  • Age cut off for visitor insurance for USA

    Hello Mr Narendra Khatri,

My mother will be visting me over here in the US and stay with me for 6
months from November 2007 thru April 2008.

I visited your site insubuy.com and looking seriously at
either Patriot America or Protection America plan offered by IMG for max benefit of $ 500,000.

However, my mother's Date of Birth is 22/March/1938. Which means she
will be 70 yrs of age on 22/March/2008. What I understand from the IMG brochure is that the maximum benefit reduces drastically for age 70 & up. But when I try to buy IMG policies online from your site for $500,000 it allows me to buy it.

Can you clarify how the policy works after 22/March/2008.

PS: I found that Tata-AIG other policies purchased from India offer coverages until the person reaches his 71 st birthday.

    Thank you,

Age is calculated at the time of effective date. Therefore, it allows you to purchase $500,000 insurance right now. The day she turns 70, it would be
    reduced to $50,000.

Please note that Patriot America and Protection America are comprehensive coverage plans for any age.

However, Tata AIG is ONLY fixed coverage plan for age 55 years and above. It is severely limited policy where there is a cap for each and every procedure.

You can read https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-insurance/ to understand fixed vs. comprehensive coverage plans.

Also, read why it is very important to buy from US company. You can look at the comparision of buying insurance from US vs India at https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-ins...ia-comparison/

If you want to buy $500,000 now that reduces to $100,000 when she turns 70,
    consider purchasing WorldMed at
    https://www.insubuy.com/worldmed-insurance/ It is comprehensive
    coverage plans.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your prompt reply. But I am still confused about the age factor when applied to insurance terms.

What does it mean by "she turns 70" ? When I do online premium calculations for Life Insurance etc, 70 years includes the 71st year upto 364 days.

In the case of my mother whose DOB is 22/March/1938, when is the 70 year cut-off ? Is it 22/March/2008 or 22/March/2009 ? Can you pl clarify.

I am very interested in the IMG policy because its within my budget while Worldmed is little pricey. If not I will have no choice but to settle for one of the India issued policies eventhough they have slab limits.

Also, note that I cannot see the "IMG Policy Wordings" on your web-site.
If I am missing it can you send me the link.

Lastly what does it mean by policy not available in Florida. Does it mean that she cannot travel in the State of Florida ? I am resident of NJ & I will be buying the policy for my mother. My mother is an Indian Citizen. But we may travel to NJ, NY & TX.

      Thanks

For visitors insurance purposes, your mother is 69 up to 03/21/2008. She turns 70 on 03/22/2008.

        >>>You said
When I do online premium calculations for Life Insurance etc, 70 years includes the 71st year upto 364 days.
        >>>>That's correct. In this case also, you are including 69th year up to 364
        >>>>days. Age categories are 65-69 and 70-74. There is no mention of year
        >>>>71.

If you indeed want to purchase fixed coverage plan, you can purchase from us as well at https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-care-insurance/ It is called Visitors Care.

However, it is much better to buy $50,000 in comprehensive coverage plan compared to $100,000 in fixed coverage plan.

IMG policy wordings are available after you purchase the insurance. You can download at https://www.insubuy.com/img/certificate-wording/ Also note that brochures provide sufficient details as well in US based
        policies, unlike Indian policies.

Read https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-ins...ia-comparison/ before buying Indian policy.

Traveling to FL is fine like going to Orlando (Disney World), Miami beach etc. But if she going to be staying at your relative's place in FL for long
time, that is not OK in IMG plan. Let me know so that I can suggest some other product. Everywhere else in the country is fine. NY, NJ, TX are fine.
        Thanks & Regards

          Thanks for the Age clarification.

Wondering why IMG policy wordings are not available before purchase ? Any hidden fine prints/surprizes to be discovered after the purchase ??

In my case given the following info -

          DOB: March/22/1938
          Sex: Female
In USA from: Nov/01/2007 thru April/30/2008

Is it possible for buy IMG's $ 500,000 policy for 6 months right now. Then
cancel this policy on March/22/2008 as the coverage reduces to $ 50,000 on that day. And then buy WorldMed's $ 100,000 policy from that day onwards upto April/30/2008. How easy or complicated this is to do from your website ? And how much money I would loose doing the cancellations etc ? Will I be able to buy WorldMed's plan at that time when my mother will be already considered to be in the US ?

Your thoughts, ideas to make the above plan work will be appreciated.

Hopefully if it works - for the first time I would not be buying a policy
          from an India based company.

There is nothing hidden fineprints or surprises in IMG policy. You can always cancel the policy before the effective date and get full refund. Several companies compete with one another for the same business. And companies think that by openly releasing policy wording, they may be jeopardizing their competitiveness in the market as competitor will learn all small details about their plan. (Competitor company can buy one $10 policy and get policy wording!! But that is the reason the company gives. ) I will make you policy wordings available for you, before purchase. Contact me for the same.

            Patriot/Protection America cancellation policy:
As long as there are no claims filed since the effective date, you will get the refund for fully unused months minus $25 cancellation fee. Look at more
details on cancellation at https://www.insubuy.com/clients/ Instead of canceling, I recommend you buy policy up to 03/21/2008 now and then decide whether to renew or buy WorldMed at that time. You can buy WorldMed even after she is in US for many months, no problem.

It has worked for hundreds of thousands of our customers, and I am sure it will work for you too.
