Bachelors degree in Computer Science or foreign equivalent plus 5 years progressive experience or Masters degree in Computer Science plus 3 years experience to include preparing patent applications from scratch with minimal to no supervision from attorneys, including interviewing inventors, understanding the technologies related to their inventions, drafting specifications that enable one of ordinary skill in the art to practice the inventions, preparing drawings to facilitate the understanding of the inventions, and drafting claims to define the scope of the inventions; preparing responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices with regard to factual and other scientific matters with minimal to no supervision from attorneys, including analyzing the legal and technical arguments made by the patent offices to reject patent applications, understanding the technologies in the prior art cited by the patent offices, orally presenting counter arguments to patent examiners, and drafting responses to overcome patent office rejections; communicating with, and acting as liaison between, patent applicants and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in connection with all aspects of patent application process, including analyzing the legal and technical positions taken by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, summarizing and explaining those positions to the applicants, providing recommendations, and devising response strategies with the applicants to advance prosecution of the patent applications; performing patent mining projects with inventors, including discussing the various features of a product with inventors, identifying novel features that are important to the success of the product, and providing patent strategies for protecting the identified features; managing an active docket of patent prosecution matters for multiple clients and ensuring that all deadlines are met; keeping abreast of the latest patent laws and procedures set forth by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; helping attorneys understand relevant technologies, including evaluating and reporting on the technological aspects of inventions and other scientific matter, advising attorneys on general and specific technologies, and investigating those technologies as needed; independently learning about the technologies of clients, including computer graphics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, encryption, security, computer vision, natural language processing, social networking, and autonomous driving; preparing prior art search reports, including understanding the novelty of inventions, devising search strategies, reviewing search results, mapping search results to the inventions, and evaluating the strength of the prior art; preparing freedomtooperate analysis, including reviewing technical documents to understand the technical features of the clients products, devising search strategies, reviewing search results, mapping search results to product features, and providing assessments of the risk factors.
