Notes:
Visa Officer asked me about my highest level of education. I graduated in Life-sciences (Bio-technology). I guess my case is related to the TAL (Technology Alert List). Please find the update on my case below which might be of any help to others. I was asked for the passport on 27th Jan 2017. it took around 4 to 5 weeks to clear and I got my passport stamped on 2nd Feb and traveled back to US the next day. TAL cases are taking around 4 to 5 weeks of time according to what I have observed.
