Notes:
I am a postdoc in a reputed university in a Biology-related field. Got a PhD from a US university too. Was on OPT and applied for a J1 visa and for my wife as J2 dependent. Interview was July 18th; It was short (may be a minute) and went well. The VO just confirmed all the and gave us the worker's rights document. Everything seemed positive for an approval until she noticed that I already have a PhD in a Biology related field. She then told us that she needs to put us on administrative processing and told us it is pretty quick now and should only take 3-4 weeks. I think it is probably a TAL security clearance. She just took a copy of my CV, retained the original DS2019 and asked us if we wanted to leave the passports with her or wanted them back for travel. We took them back. Aug 28th: got an email that the AP has been completed! They wanted an updated start date before passport submission. Interestingly, still no update in the CEAC status since the interview date. Still showing AP.
