I got an automated reply regarding confirmation of documents received.
Since then I have not seen any updates on CEAC website and status change still shows 6th Dec.
However, passport tracking on ustraveldocs has started to show "there is no status available for your passport" instead of "passports is with embassy" since 21st Dec. I am not sure what does that mean. Keeping fingers crossed and waiting patiently.
Case Last Updated: 11-Jan-2018 from 06-Dec-2017 for the first time
Issued : 12-Jan-2018. Took 37 days for the ordeal to get over.
