I'm writing on behalf of my wife who got a 221(g) recently. I found Immihelp to be very helpful for reading what others in a similar situation had gone through, so wanted to share our experience as well.
This was her first H-1 stamping after completing her MS. She has been working for 3 years for a reputed US tech company. Here's the sequence of events.
July 5: Interview in Mumbai. VO said Visa was approved
July 10: Received passport without Visa stamp. 221(g) issued and asked to await further instructions
July 17: Received DS 5535. Responded same day
Sept 5: Exactly after 60 days, received an email to submit passport (there were no updates on CEAC website after the initial July 5 date)
Sept 6: Submitted passport via drop-off
Sept 10: Status changed to 'Issued'
Sept 11: Received passport via Bluedart
