I am a PhD student in Molecular Biology, renewing my F1 visa. I have been in US previously for 7 years, all under F1 status. They kept my passport and I20 and haven't asked for any document.
Finally after 59 days of wait, my visa has been approved. I was called to the embassy where the VO revealed that it's approved. The VO also revealed to me that my case was kind of lost! My advisor sent an email to the consulate 3 days ago and apparently it woke them up.
