I am a researcher at university, but my area of research is not in the TAL list. Consular officer asked about the kind of work I do, salary, etc. After that she looked at my previous visa (which had undergone "admin processing"), and said my visa will take some time. Asked my return date and said she will get the processing started today. Gave me a blue slip (this used to be a pink slip previously) with "administrative processing" checked.
Previously, they used to have a pdf on the CAEC website that was updated everyday and used to show the list of all case ids - that allowed us to approx predict when my visa would get issued. That is not there anymore, now it shows only our status.
From May 5 to May 26: no change in status or even "last updated date". Did not get any email as mentioned in slip
May 27: the "last updated" date got updated to May 27, but status remained same.
May 29 : Status updated to issued.
Checked passport status, which finally got ready by May 29th afternoon
