I-485
Hello Everyone,

My interview is scheduled for Feb 12 and I’m freaking out because my husbands job contract is going to expire 3 days before the interview, we weren't expecting it since my PD is Nov 23 (less than 3 months for the interview) and I don’t know what to do since he is sponsoring me and I can’t work because I didn’t get my work permit and he will not have a job by there, please if you have any tip that I could do it would help me a lot. I’m also very worried about when I applied for my visa I mentioned I didn’t know anyone in America and I was going to California but I changed my plans and came to Boston and meanwhile I figured out I do have a cousin here (who I didn’t talk since he moved in 2001) which I became friend and lived with until I got married, do you think it could be a problem? I didn’t lie when I applied for a visa I just didn’t know I was coming and I didn’t know I had someone here. Please help me!!!!!!

Affidavit of support
Hello everyone,

I’m new to this formum and I can see some helpful information.

I’m a Norfolk, VA filler and I have my interview in February at USCIS for AOS family based.

In the interview notice they asked me to bring an affidavit of support for the most recent tax year unless already submitted. When I filled my case last year (in 2018),
I submitted a 864 form for 2016 and 2017 tax year will all documentation. Since
A new tax year has passed, do I need to fill again a new affidavit for 2018 year ?

My sponsor is on travel abroad and I’m not sure if it will be possible for him to file for his 2018 tax quickly before interview date and get all employment letter needed.

Can I come at USCIS without that new affidavit of support ? Or Can I change my sponsor ?

Thank you

I-485
I filed (I-485, I-130 and I-765) concurrently. USCIS received my application on August 8, 2018. Had y biometrics on the first week of September. USCIS asked for additional documents just a few days before the biometrics thru mail which I sent them in less than a week after the biometrics. I sent another batch of documents on the first week of October, 2018. I haven't received EAD yet, but my interview is scheduled for the next month. I did fall out of F1 status and worried that it could the reason of not getting the EAD yet. What are my chances in the interview? Anyone in my shoes? Our marriage is bona fide and we are not worried about that part. But I really need to get approved for us to have a smoother life together! I'm currently studying full time.

I-485 AOS Interview-RFE -no update
Hi

I had my I-485 interview on Jan 09, 2019 , I was not approved on the spot, even I was not given any paper stating my case is under review.
On Jan 12 , 2019 I received a notice asking for more information. I sent the required info on Jan 18, 2019 .The required documents were delivered on Jan 22, 2019. Today updated on website for received of docs.
Since my interview was very nice and IO was very much convinced ,I was thinking by end of the day my case will be approved. Unfortunately no update .
Waiting to see how much time they take. But I am confident and very hopeful.

My Timeline- Philadelphia, PA
Hello everyone! Hope all is well with you. I just wanted to take some time to thank you all for your insights about your experiences throughout this arduous process. I know it can be taxing at times. Hang in there and remember that every case is different.

Here is my timeline (Married to an U.S. Citizen)
Filed with the Local Office of Philadelphia

1- My PD was December 2017 (Filed I-485, I-130, I-765, and I-693 concurrently). Got receipts from USCIS three weeks after filing.
2- January 2018: I got my fingerprints
3- March 2018: my case was ready for interview
4- April 2018: got my working permit (EAD)
5- December 2018: I got my interview notice
6- January 2019: I had my interview at the Philadelphia office. The case was approved a week after the interview. I got my green card in the mail three days after receiving the approval notices for I-485 and I-130 in the mail.

In total, my process took approximately 13 months. Mind you that some people have gotten their green card in 6 months, hence every case is different.

The interview was laid-back. The waiting room was crowded, and we got there 30 minutes prior to our interview time; however, we ended up waiting approximately 2 more hours before being called in for our interview. The officer was nice and straightforward. Due to the large amount of people waiting, we could tell she wanted to make our interview go as fast as possible. We were in the interview for about 45 minutes. We got sworn in and then she began asking us basic questions such as where we met, how we met, etc. She was making jokes while asking the questions. You have nothing to fear, as long as your marriage is legitimate, and you are overly prepared. We were commended on our organization. We brought 2 1 ½” binders filled with documents and a photo album with almost 400 pictures. It made it easy for us to locate what she was asking for. Also, be sure to make copies of your original documents. The officer asked my wife questions from the I-130 and then she asked me questions from the I-485 and all the yes and no questions as well. At the end of the interview, she told us that we would hear from them within 4 to 8 weeks. The case was never updated online until I received the approval notices in the mail. People here say that they get approved on the spot, but we never got a verbal confirmation. All in all, we felt that our interview went really well. Once again, if your marriage is bona fide, you have nothing to worry about. Just because you don’t hear from immigration right away, doesn’t mean your case didn’t get approved. I never felt out of status and yet my case took 13 months.

Thank you all so much for being my support this last year. It has been stressful at times, but seeing your experiences really motivated me. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. God speed!

I went through my interview, every was going well and smooth at the end
The officer said that because you was waiting for only 4 months to get remarried
He has to talk with his supervisor to make a decision.
Or they may call us for a second interview.

I485 interview scheduled
Hello everyone, I'm a Chicago filer married to US citizen. My pd is May 1, 2018. I just got an update that my interview was scheduled on January 22. How long will it take to get the notice? My wife is 6yrs older than me; will that be a problem? Our marriage is absolutely genuine. My wife and I lived together with my father-in-law & mother-in-law for 20 month because I wasn't working. Both of us now live together in our own apartment because I'm now working with my EAD. We have the following together: Joint bank account (checking and savings), joint lease, joint tax returns, host of pics, electric bill, traditional marriage video on CD and on YouTube, traditional wedding invitation card given out to people, birthday cards, etc. Our relationship started since childhood and we are from the same country. Any tips will be appreciated.

Filing a Complaint
Hello everyone,

I just want to ask if some of you have had any bad experiences during the interview with the Immigration Officer, to the point that you feel the need to file a complaint. I am considering doing so because of what happened at my Adjustment of Status interview on Dec 17th 2018.

Basically, we arrived at our local USCIS office in Tucson, AZ, on time, and waited like everybody else did, until someone called my U.S. Citizen husband (I am a in same-sex marriage) and I to come in. The lady, probably in her mid or late 50s, was a little "cold" since the beginning, however, we did not think this was going affect our interview. She asked my husband about his previous addresses, and he could not provide that information in details (he just has a bad memory with many things, especially dates and names), and the officer began to make faces and to tell us that she wanted the exact address and the exact dates when he lived in those places. I helped him out, since I had filled out all of the forms and I had copies of them at hand. She spent about 30 minutes or a little more, just asking my husband (the U.S. Citizen) questions about his addresses and then his job.

Then, she started asking me questions, basically the same questions; but because I knew the answers to those questions, we did not take long. Finally, she asked us about our relationship, how we had met, where, when, etc. Mind you, my husband does not remember details like I do. So, when he was answering those questions, he was kind of vague and the officer did not seem very convienced, so, I jumped in. We showed her evidence of living in the same address (apartment lease, utility bills, pay stubs, etc), and a photo album with several pictures of us since the beginning of our relationship back in 2013. I told her that we had been dating for over 5 years, and that I had included pictures of every year. She did not seem very convienced here either.

In the end, she asked me for copies of my previous I-20's, but I only had the most recent one with me. She also asked me for paperwork on an arrest (case was closed and dismissed), and I only had the Court Disposition, which she would not accept because it was not "certified", plus she wanted a copy of the police report. Also, she wanted more evidence of our relationship. Long story short, she said that she needed some extra documention and gave us a Request For Initial Evidence (RFIE). I got the requested documents the same day, and sent them in. They were delivered on Dec 19th 2018, but since then, I have not heard back.

The point of this loooooong post, is to know how appropriate it would be for me to send a formal complaint (I called USCIS and they gave me the proper procedures for this) because of how bad our interview experience was. We think that the lady was homofobic and/or perhaps, racist (my husband is African American and I am biracial). I don't know what to do, but ever since that day, I think about the "What-if's" (What if I had had all of the papers she wanted? Would she have approved me? What if my husband had answered those first questions well? Would she still have been rude and/or condescending?) What do you all think?

I appreciate the time you put into reading this. :-)
