To God Be the Glory - I Have my Green Card in Hand :)
Hello everyone :)
I would like to thank everyone here for all the thoughts and advices that you have provided me during my AOS process. This forum helps me a lot throughout my journey, from the day I started my paper works until I get my green card in hand. I would say that this process is like an agony for me. Even though I have a clear case; the waiting time is like killing me during those days but this forum is my avenue every time I have questions. Thank you so much once again. Today 16th November 2019 I got my green card in hand. It took me 186 days or 6 months and 3 days until finally my journey is over.
Just a little background of my case. I am a marriage based filer. I met my husband (USC) via online; after almost ten months of chatting I decided to visit him. By the way before meeting him I have my own USA visa already (B1/B2). I visited him in 2016 and three weeks after that I went back and visited him again in 2018 and he proposed to me and then we got married. And then filed my papers. I did all my paper works without hiring a lawyer. Below is my timeline.
May 10, 2019 - Sent the applications (I-485, I-130, I-131 and I-765).
May 13, 2019 - Applications was delivered and received.
May 13, 2019 - Priority Date.
May 20, 2019 - Received text and email from USCIS (NOA for 4 cases).
May 23, 2019 - Received mails for NOA of 4 Cases.
Aug. 17, 2019 - Received mail for my Biometrics.
Aug. 26, 2019 - Biometrics appointment.
Sept. 27, 2019 - Interview Was Scheduled.
Oct. 05, 2019 - Received mail for my interview (7th Nov. 2019).
Oct. 15, 2019 - Received my EAD and AP Combo Card.
Nov. 07, 2019 - Interview Date.
Interview Experience:
We arrived in Detroit Field Office around 1:35 PM our interview was 2:00 PM. Went for security checks etc. and sat down. After 30 minutes of waiting my name was called. The IO was a very serious and very professional Black American gentleman. He walked us in his office and after that he told us to remain standing and take oath. And then he asked us about our IDs', passports and driving licenses. And he begun to asked questions. First he asked me about my husband's name, DOB, place of birth and names of his parents. And then he asked my husband the same. After that he asked me the "yes or no" questions in I-485. And then asked about how, when and where we met? So we told him our story that we met online and told him everything and he said what a "Story" even he told us "so you were totally stranger to each other in 2016 huh and smile :) . First I was nervous when he said "we were totally stranger" but he smiled so I calm down. And he asked for our original birth certificates, original marriage certificate etc. And then he asked my husband about his work/job because he is a police officer. And by the way there was one question that my husband's answer was wrong it is the wrong date he answered. And then after that he look at our album, pictures and asked about some of it where it was taken and so forth. And then after that he asked us about more evidences so we gave him our joint bank statements, joint health insurance, life insurance, car insurance, telephone bills, cable bills, electricity bills and even we gave him the newspaper page; the obituary page where both our names in it when my husband's dad passed away. I would say we worked on this documents like two weeks before our interview because that is the only time I received my SSN. The bank don't allow us to have joint bank account without my SSN but thank God it did came on time.
And then after asking all of the documents, he printed two sheets of paper and he let us sign in one of the sheet and gave us copy. He never mentioned we were approved but he explained to me the I-751 that 90 days before my green card expires I have to renew it.The other paper has red mark check that "interview completed and held for review" so I was so worried because I don't know when they gonna approve our case. It may take days, weeks, months even a year. Again my agony started again :(. But the next day November 08, 2019 when I check my status it says "Case Was Approved" (both I-1485 & I-130). I feel relieved. "God is Amazing" :). Take note that provided your marriage is legit and bona fide you will be fine. And prayer also is most Powerful too.
I hope this gives a little help. And for all those who are still in this very distressful process I will include you in my prayers. Good Luck.
