Lost Greencard

I received my Greencard earlier this year, I entered the USA July 6, 2007. I received my Greencard but have mislaid my purse which my greencard was in. I have to go to England In January for up to a month then return to the USA. Please can you advise me how to apply for a replacement card. I do have a Temporary stamp in my passport which is valid for up to one year. But I am concerend how this all works. Please advise me on what I do next.
