Good afternoon,
I am a Canadian Citizen and permanent resident of the US since 1980. I married a US citizen and we have 2 grown children. In the last 5 years I have traveled a lot back and forth to take care of my parents who are both now deceased. I’ve also taken a few vacations over the years and in the last 2 or 3 years every time I present my Resident Alien card, US Customs wants to take it away. On one of my trips back to the US from Canada a supervisor in US Customs told me” never to let anybody take this from me and that customs would try.” So I have guarded it with my life since them.
Well I recently got back from Guatemala, and a US customs official engraved I-90 and wrote with permanent marker on my Resident Alien card. He told me that my card is expired. The Card I have has no expiration date.
So I’ve tried to research this online and there is a maze of forms and I’m not sure which direction to take. My husband passed away in 2006, and I was granted my residency in 1980 when we married. He was a US citizen.
I am a responsible person, have been of good moral character, am a good parent and I financially sound and have a great job. I have one daughter that is Canadian and one that is American.
Please advise what I should do to rectify this situation. I am traveling to Vietnam May 26- June 14th, and I am not sure that my Resident Alien card is even valid anymore.
Any guidance or assistance would be most appreciated.
Kind Regards
