lost birth certificate

Hi,
I filed for my Adjustment of Status and submitted a copy of my birth certificate( that i had with me here in USA) with it. I got an appointment for am interview for which i need the original copy (which i had left in my home country).
My parents could not find it and filed a FIR(first incident report) that my birth certificate was lost and arranged a duplicate copy from the local body where i was born.
Can i use this in liew of my Birth Certificate. Some people told me to submit a non-availability(which i would have done if i would not have submitted a copy of birth certificate earlier.)
