Hi friends just a small update The PCC is valid for two years from the date of issue. This information is on the US travelsdoc site.(uploading the snapshot)

Your point is valid Cheli, but it is written in other place, that PCC is valid for one year from the date of issue. In past, in this forum it was discussed and some members got a new PCC hurriedly just before interview. When one has time, why not to apply and get PCC and be tension free.

Dear GeoMac, you have articulated it well. Forum members please keep in mind that the PCC has a one year validity. This can be further confirmed by all those whose interviews have been completed and Visa Granted. My elder sister and her husband got their VISA only after they submitted the new PCC. They had their interviews on January 6, this year. They were handed over some form 221(g) with instructions to submit a new PCC at any VAC centre with no pre appointment. Incidentally, I and my wife have applied for a fresh PCC on the 7th, the earliest appointment that we got is March 21. Count another 21 days after that for the PCC to be delivered. So in our case a new PCC could take upto six weeks to come, from today. My DQ date is March 23, so by God’s grace, I will get that document well in time. Best wishes to all members of the forum.

Hi friends, If the PCC is obtained from the local police authorities it is valid for a year and if it is obtained from the regional passport office then it is valid for two years. Depends on from where you have obtained the PCC.

All I know on this topic is that PCC obtained from local authorities is not acceptable by NVC. I made that mistake while submitting documents for my father. I got a Letter from NVC that this is not correct PCC. So I got a new PCC from Passport Sewa Kendra and resubmitted it to NVC. Then my father was documentarily Qualified. This mistake costed me 4 months delay.

All I know on this topic is that PCC obtained from local authorities is not acceptable by NVC. I made that mistake while submitting documents for my father. We also did the same mistake. We obtained PCC from local police station in PUTTAPARTHI and submitted. We received letter from NVC stating that your PCC is not valid one and replace it. So we obtained a new PCC from passport Seva Kendra in Thirupathi and resubmitted. Then only after 3 months, we received letter from NVC " The National Visa Center (NVC) received all of the fees, forms, and documents that are required prior to attending an immigrant visa interview at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate General overseas.

NVC will work with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in MUMBAI (BOMBAY), IND to schedule an interview appointment for you. Once we have confirmed an interview date, we will send a notice to you, your petitioner and attorney (if applicable)." So If we want to renew our PCC it is advisable to get from Passport Seva Kendra to avoid further time delay.

Dear Cheli, There is no point in doing “trial and error” in our cases. Normally we learn from other’s experiences. Learning by our experiments is always costly. It is as simple as that, that PCC issued by RPO / PSK is the only document acceptable to NVC and Consulate, as long as PCC is concerned. Please read post #949 by NNSidhu and post #950 by V1V2S. They have written how they suffered the delay due to wrong PCC.

Hi GeoMac , I do agree with your point and it is always best to get the PCC from the RPO as it speaks for the international standards and the RPO is for the national standards.

Interview time - 8:30 am
Visa granted - 10:40 am

Questions :
Where does your son live?
Who does your son live with?
Have you ever been to the US and what places have you visited?

Most of the time spent was either in the queue or docs verification. The actual interview took less than 5 mins.

I saw some questions on the PCC on the forum so let me try and answer a few:
1) PCC issues by the police authorities will not be valid. It has to be issued by the Passport office.
2) In our case, the PCC was almost a year old for both my parents. So, we went ahead and applied a new one knowing that fact that it may not be available at the time of the interview. To be on the safer side, we took a print-out of the confirmation from the Passport office that the PCC interview is done, but the actual copy is yet to be issued.
Luckily, the old one worked in our case and we were not asked to submit a new one, but I would strongly recommend everyone to apply for a new PCC if yours is more than a year old. My father overheard in one of the counters asking for a new PCC from some other candidates (could be a lot older PCC or for some other reason).
