Now that PIO is also lifelong, what is the need for OCI card? What is the difference between OCI and PIO now?

With the changes it seems that the PIO once obtained does not have to be ever renewed. While the OCI has to be renewed every 5 or 10 years if the holder is younger than 21 or older than 50. Getting the PIO has a shorter (and simpler?) application process than the OCI. Seems it is better to get the PIO even if you are eligible for the OCI.

I am confused too!
Also I suspect there may be more changes to come in future - scraping both PIO and OCI and going for OIC -0verseas Indian card!
I am applying for PIO.
If people feel more connected to 'citizen' term - they should apply for OCI - and keep re-register/apply for 'life long visa'
what is the purpose of life long visa if OCI has to be re-registered after 50 yrs..
