Dear counselor,
My parents are US citizens. They are both of Indian origin. They are currently in India and have a multiple entry visa which is good until Oct 30 2008. They were scheduled to depart India on Sept 22 2008. My fathers health is not good and he is undergoing some treatmemt which may take a few months. They need to extend their stay in India and are also interested in getting the OCI card.
Please advise on the following issues:
1.extension of visa – how can this be done now so that they can stay until Jan 2009.
2.If they apply for OCI card now, how long will it take and what will happen to the visa that they currently have until Oct 2008.
3.When can they find out if the OCI card has been approved
4.They have 2 months now before their ticket expires for return to US – is this enough time to find out if the OCI card can be approved
5.Should they apply for extension of visa first? Where and how can thins be done?
6.Both OCI application and extension of visa applications can be sent to the Indian consulate in India – is that advisable?
