Indian Passport Renewal Clarification

I have read through the details described as part of /indian-passport-services-in-usa/

I have entered my prior passport details in the On-line Registration page but at the end of the process, I am asked to pick a date for appointment. I was under the impression that I could send the documents through mail and await for the renewed passport by mail. But it looks like I can only apply in person.

Could you please confirm whether applying in person is the only option? Is there a possibility for applying by mail.

My current passport expires in Jan 2009 and I am in Los Angeles, California.

hi Raja,

You need not appear in person in the Consulate. Instead you can apply thru mail. Send your original passport, duly notarized status and address proofs along with the application form to the San Francisco consulate passport cell. You need not wait until your appointment date to mail it. You will receive the passport in less than 2 weeks time. Fees for new passport would be $40, $20 mailing fee - money orders or casheirs check only will be accepted!!
