my son's Passport renewal ( 9 yrs)

Dear All
i need your help in providing the following information regarding my son's Passport renewal
his passport expires on 02/23/2011
i need to apply for renewal in Houston, ( as i am living in Atlanta ,GA), i want to go to the Consulate in person to reduce the process time and I do not want to send his passport in post.
my questions is..
1) Do i need to take my son along?
2) if i do Tatkal scheme can i got it on the same day?
3) To show them proof of residence for my son, i do not have any thing on his name, how do i show the proof to consulate officer?
4) What all are the Doc. that need to notarizes?
