That question is basically not proper. But the stamp they are referring to is the "Cancelled passport due to acquiring US nationality" that they will eventually put on your Indian passport when you send your documents to them which is what this renunciation is all about. So you need to choose option #1.

I say the question is not proper is because if my passport already has that stamp, then why will I need to do the renunciation process again!

    1. Naturalized after June 1 2010 and does NOT have a stamp(Cancelled due to acquiring US/Foreign nationality)
    2. Naturalized after June 1 2010 and does have a stamp(Cancelled due to acquiring US/Foreign nationality)

what does this stamp means(I thought its cancel stamp in the passport) and which option do I need to select.

Yes, that's exactly what I did. Downloaded form and used pdf editor to complete the form. Leave the last section blank (Date and sign of consular officer). They will stamp the date and sign. VFS has done a shitty job at this. CKGS was much efficient and smooth. With CKGS, all forms would be generated in pdf format once you fill everything and you just had to print. No manual work was needed. Had done renunciation earlier for another family member and it was so smooth and streamlined wkth CKGS. I so miss them. Wonder why they would not renew Ckgs' contract.

It is a fillable field - so one one hand it feels like I should fill it. On the other hand, it is in the section called "Surrender Certificate" which seems to be meant for the officer.

India is not allowing people with tourist visa yet. However, OCI, business/work visa holders are allowed.

Is anyone able to track your application once submitted on the VFS tracking webpage? And were you able to able to sign up for the Text message/SMS option? I tried entering my reference numbers (tried both VFS and Govt. reference numbers), but it says invalid inputs when I try to track them.

Ignore instruction about digital photo upload

For renunciation certification form, here is what I did.

Hit print on the form and "Save as pdf" - This way all the programmable scripts in the form are disabled. I then used an online site (google/bing and you will see a bunch of sites for this) to edit the pdf and easily filled all the columns manually. The date should be in Indian format. dd/mm/yyyy.

I used smallpdf.com which was very easy to use

    1) For photo and signature - The checklist says to upload digital forms of both on the govt website. There is no place I found where i can do the same. Or shall we ignore this?

    2) the renunciation certificate fillable pdf converts dates to m/d/y format automatically, also the lower portion is not able to record name, phone etc correctly and garbages them. So i have filled up what is possible rest of the stuff has been filled by hand. Is that what everyone is doing?

    thank you

That's strange. I didn't get any passport fee of $175. The total that I paid using credit card was about $223.90

    Total payable : USD 368.90
If you enter today's date in vfs online form for expiry date(second from the last -expiration date) it takes me to to next page, If you select VFS offered mail service by selecting credit and debit card it shows the fee detail of 368.90 and additional postal charge of 30$ in other services, so total cost comes to 412.86. Initially in email VFS mentioned the total fees for renounciation is 193.90$. In initial email conversation VFS doesnt mention any fees for passport but now there is 175 $ for the Passport fees - not sure what is it for. Anyone know whether this is correct fee structure.

Interestingly, they replied to me yesterday saying that issue has been resolved and asked me to try again. They didn't say that I need to put today's (current) date in passport expiry field.

Thank you for contacting the VFS Indian Visa, Passport & OCI Application Center Help Desk in the United States.

We understand that you are facing issue while submitting the "Add New Customer" application.

We would like to inform you that as per the update received from the concerned team, we would request you to use the current date, the date on which you are filling the form (For example: 21/11/2020) under Passport Expiry Date to proceed with the Renunciation application.

Just a heads-up to everyone to use dd/mm/yyyy as the format for date everywhere, or else it will be rejected. I had trouble filling in the date under this format as Adobe wouldn't allow it, so I left it blank and filled the dates by hand on the "renunciation certificate".
