ECNR query

Greetings..
Recently, I renewed my passport at Indian Embassy, New York. They forgot to stamp ECNR in my new passport whereas it was there in my old one. I would appreciate if someone could give me info on below:

Is ECNR absolute requirement for USA? Do we need to have it in the passport to get into USA?

I've never worried about it. The last I checked with the Indian embassy, all passports issued in US automatically comes with ECNR check.

But what the heck does this ECNR mean or have to do? I have to go through immigration in India everytime even with it. Anyone clarify what is the use of having it or not? My old PP did not have it and the new one does and it made no difference.

ECNR is not applicable to those traveling to USA.

It is different that having to go through immigration process at the airport counter.

Passports issued abroad are by default ECNR these days. But not all consulates follow this, they sometimes put the ECNR/ECR stamp on passport. But nothing to worry; if the passport is issued abroad, its bound to be ECNR.

Hi ,
I have received pass*port in 2006, In my pass*port “emi*gra*tion check required” stamp is there. Actu*ally i am plan*ning to fly saudi ara*bia. need to start visa pro*cess*ing. is ECR required for visa pro*cess*ing? i hv con*tacted few agents for ecr clearence , they are telling me for 20 days. in mean*while shall i start the visa process? or should i wait till i get ECR clearence?

If we dint get ECR clearence it will arise any problems?
