  • N-400 application

    Hi,

I have been in the USA 5 years ( married for 5 years). Recently got divorced (last Sept). I want to apply for my citizenship. The application process seems way too easy from what I have read. I had a very arduous green card application road, so just checking to see whether what I have to send with the application is just:
    1-form
    2-fees
    3-divorce decree
    4-green card copy (both sides)

What about taxes etc? Even though I am divorced, do I still have to submit my ex's details etc?

Maybe I am just so used to things being so difficult here, this seems way too easy. Please let me know that I am on the right track and that I am not paranoid

Visit the following link that has all the info you need to know including the requirements, documents and fees to apply for Naturalization using form N-400.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

Tax returns are not required, except if you're filing based on being married to the same US Citizen spouse for at least 3yrs and being a permanent resident for at least 2 years nine (9) months.

Don't forget you also need to include 2 passport sized photos and as an option you can also complete a form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance found here:

so you can receive email & text messages about the status of your application - from it's receipt thru oath ceremony.

              Interview

Ok, I guess they move very quickly in NYS. Just got a notification that my testing and interviewing schedule is on its way and I only took biometrics on 2/6. This is good I guess?

Now the question is; does anyone know whether NYC does the ceremony on the same day as the interview, if one passes? Just want to be prepared and ready to go

                I forgot...

                Another question that I have:

I got my GC due to being married to USA citizen. As mentioned in this thread, we got divorced. In my upcoming naturalization interview will I be asked personal questions about my ex and his family as I was when I was questioned for my permanent residency? Just curious because I have never really been that close with his family and if need be, I have to remember all their personal stuff (against my will and wishes). Thanks!
