  • be care of the rip offs by passport agency

Last week, after I took the oath ceremony for naturalization in the federal building LLoyd D. George Federal Courthouse, Las Vegas, naturally I followed the rest went down to the 1st floor waiting hall, where the passport agency ladies and gentlemen are warm heartedly waiting, applied for the passport book and card. I selected both passport book and passport card on the form DS11, and when it was my turn, I asked the lady behind the table how much for both the passport book and card with expedited services, she said $240. Since they don't take credit card but only cash or money order or personal check, and I only had credit and debit cards in my pocket besides $400 cash, I gave her $300 cash, and she returned me $60 cash with 3 $20, together with a receipt of $190.66.
I was a little confused when I took a glimpse onto that receipt because I paid $240. However, I didn't question her why the receipt is not $240 but 190.66 instead because I totally trusted those persons who represent the Department of State.
Today when I called the passport center to ask the passport application process time, ocasionally I was told by them, I only applied for the passport book with the expedited service because I paid only $190.66!!!
And I can't complain for that because I paid them in cash which means there's no proof that I paid $240!!!!!

So, guys, when you accomplished the oath ceremony, and step towards to the passport agency in the hall, keep an eye on how much you paid shall equal the number on the receipt, I strongly suggest write a personal check to them because you can track and prove it!!!!
What the ridiculous ripoffs happened onto me, would possibly hurt you guys again!
Remember, your journey hasn't yet been really accomplished till you checked and confirmed the number on the receipt is correct!!!!
    $240 became into $190.66?! that's a **** money rip off!!!!

P.S. the passport agency guys come from USPS office code 890250.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. When we applied for passport with expedited services we paid $190.66 by check and the remaining $25 processing fee by credit card. In your case, could the lady have used part of the remaining money towards the processing fee $25?

I'd rather believe that lady made a mistake than rips off my money. At that day, the USPS guys told us that they don't take any Credit or debit card. I thought the reason is they don't have the wireless pos machine. Anyway, I was ripped off by a USPS lady or she is from department of state. Now I paid again via phone call the passport center for the passport card.

Yeah, could be that it was an error on her side - but since you paid cash, it's hard not to think the error was intentional. Maybe you should have gone back to that lady to show her the receipt and told her what had happened, when you found out that they did not issue the Passport card. If they had more cash that day when they closed their registers (because they didn't process your PP card), then that would have given them a chance to fix the issue even later on, if the mistake was genuine. But since you once again applied for the passport card and paid for it again, it is too late now and an $50 lesson for you (to always question a receipt error then and there). Sorry.

For any passport application, renewal etc they don't take credit card anywhere (even in the passport center in NJ, by where I live). Payment is only by check, Money order etc, except for the processing fee of $25 which can be credit card.

Unfortunately, I don't know which post office they are from, maybe from city hall, maybe volunteer. Let it be. Just feeling no good.

I don't believe that a government employee with a decent job security and good pension plan will try to screw you over for $40. It is just not worth losing the job and becoming a felon over that amount of money. Most likely a simple mistake.
